This skill set reflects the skill requirements for providing person centred support to people with disability in various settings.
If you have been working in ageing support or disability support, but never formalised your Disability qualification, you may not need to do a new Certificate III. This skill set enables you to upgrade your older qualification to the current industry knowledge and experience required to support clients with a disability.
This skill set is for people working in various care and support roles in the community services and disability sector who wish to develop skills in providing person centred support to people with a disability. The skill set is an accredited program for new or existing workers in the Community Services and Health Industry in a role involving provision of direct client care or support. Students must already hold a Certificate III in Individual Support - CHC33015 (or equivalent).
There are four Units of Competency which must be completed to achieve this Skill Set:
- CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
- CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
- CHCDIS003 Support community participation and social inclusion
- CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with a disability
You may have already done these units, if you completed the disability specialisation. If so, you cannot undertake this skill set.
You also may have done one or more of these units in your Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing). This/these can be used as a Credit Transfer towards this Skill Set.
Higher Level Skills Funding is applicable to this Skill Set.
